Friends & Enemies
Adler is a detective at the National Crime Agency. She’s heard rumours of a crime consultancy that helps gangs and syndicates plan their most daring jobs. Once, she even had a man in custody after a failed jewel heist that was willing to tell her about a firm that provided detailed schematics and information to criminals. However, by the time she’d arrived to question him, the man had died in the interrogation room. Scarlett suspected murder, but there was no evidence. Now, Adler is hot on the Firm’s trail and eventually finds Julia, Moriarty & Co’s newest consultant - and soon to be her latest informant. Scarlett thinks she’s recruited a doe-eyed Julia, but Julia has her own plans for the relationship.

A fastidious military supply chain officer, when he was discharged in the ‘70s, Moran decided to become a consultant and set out to help trading companies with their logistics. One happened to be a front for a smuggling operation, so Moran soon became an expert in moving stolen and illicit goods. Always a pragmatist, Moran’s path was set and he developed his expertise in helping British criminals. He had a peculiar jingoistic value set, happy to have foreigners working for him, but not accepting them as clients. And he had no desire to work with foreign criminals operating on British soil. This put him at odds with Armstrong, who was keen to expand the firm. Tensions escalated between them, with the ruthless Moran putting Armstrong’s life under threat. When Armstrong’s hostile takeover comes, it’s sudden and violent.
Moran escaped by faking his own death and has been biding his time in the shadows, waiting for a way to return and destroy Armstrong. He sees an opportunity with Julia to become the missing father figure from her life, manipulating her for his own objectives.

Daniel is Sarah’s husband. An A&E doctor and a loving father. Daniel knows nothing of Sarah’s real job - or rather who her real clients are. And Sarah knows Daniel wouldn’t approve it he knew.
When Leslie Armstrong took control of Moriarty & Co, he needed the backing of the firm’s most influential supporters. These backers became the members of Moriarty & Co’s Board, a group of people guiding the firm in their own interests. In theory, their identities are kept secret from even the senior partners, but with 3 of the Board Members as important clients, suspicions and rumours abound. The remainder of the Board is less obvious, but Sarah will soon discover a top civil servant, a banker and an heiress all sit around Moriarty’s top table.
